#Chronicle

I saw the movie Chronicle with my brother this evening, and it was amazing!! This is literally one of the best science-fiction films I have even seen. The film is directed by Josh Trank and screen written by Max Landis. The filmed debuted worldwide February 3, 2012.

The storyline follows Andrew, his cousin Matt and their fellow classmate Steve who acquire superhuman powers without their knowledge. As they learn to control their abilities , they use their powers for mischief and personal gain until Andrew uses it for darker purposes. Andrew finds that filming his life with a camcorder is opening his world.

The context of it is wonderful. The movie is presented as “found-footage”. This type of filmmaking allows the audience to feel the realism of the movie with the shaky camera movements and allowing the actors the speak “off” screen. It allows the actors to act more natural than if it was a conventional filmmaking method. This was primarily filmed with a camcorder used by Andrew to document the events in his life.

Dane DeHaan (Andrew), Alex Russell (Matt), and Jordan B. Michael (Steve) excel at their roles especially when their powers increase to them flying and messing about with situations that turn very dangerous.

It is edgy, and  fun; it has light moments, and dark ones. The location of the film is also great, I don’t want to give too much away. It hasn’t been in too many movies that I’ve seen. But it’s not one of the “classic movie cities”. You won’t be seeing New York City or Los Angeles. This is something we don’t normally see in films.

I highly recommend everyone see it! (or buy it when it comes out on DVD/BluRay)
