Summer Conversations

25 Mar

Dreaming of the end of school and summer seems a bit farfetched when you’re inside on a Sunday afternoon finishing up final assignments for school. To get in the mood about the nicer weather coming our way, I went to Starbucks and ordered their Passion Tazo Lemonade. The sweetness of the raspberry and the tartness of the lemon mixed together is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Not to mention, the dripping condensation from the cup reminds you that it really  is a sunny, 13 degrees outside! Hearing the birds chirping and the chattering of voices outside, tells me the outdoor season has officially begun!

My Mom treated us to sundaes for dessert that evening. It reminded me of this great ice parlour The Big Chill near Kensington Market in Toronto. Banana splits, milkshakes, smoothies, and just plain ice cream in a cone is the perfect staple for those warmer, hazy days. Another great “summery” place to hang out in Toronto is The Blue Banana Market located in Kensington Market. This place is the perfect setting for everything summer.

It has a bohemian, hippie-chic vibe to it. The vintage and modern pieces the store has to offer is geared towards both men and women, kids, and older folks looking for something that will inspire them for summer or any other time of the year.

It’s also the season of the summer tunes! A good summer playlist is essential, especially for days at the beach, cottage, or just lounging around the house. A few songs that are perfect for this time of year are: “Surfing” by The Drums, “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People, and “Shuffle” by Bombay Bicycle Club.

Food is the absolute best part of the season. Whether it is barbecues, picnics (indoors or outdoors), at the cottage, or hanging out at home; everyone needs to have that perfect summer menu.
Going to theme parks can help you get into the food mood. The smell of carnival food, will make anyones mouth water, no matter what your age is. Really great places to get carnival food is at any carnival, or you can wait until late August for The C.N.E in Toronto. (or as most people call it “The EX”. The Canadian National Exhibition. This year it’s running from August 17-September 3.

Finally, to wrap up my carnival food frenzy, the best thing to have anytime is an ice cream float. YUMMY! The richness of the ice cream in the bubbly goodness of your favourite soft drink will make you want seconds of this delectable treat!

Get ready for summer in style this year!
